Over-the-Shoulder Shot

One character's head and shoulder hold the foreground while we look past them at another, so where each one stands is clear at a glance.

Over-the-Shoulder Shot AI Video Prompt

Over-the-shoulder: Biwa's head and shoulder stay in the foreground as the camera looks past her toward the half-open side door and Ruk. Ruk comes up to the gap in the door; his hand touches the edge of the door first, and only then does he push it lightly, and the door sways a little with his hand. He turns his head to get a clear look at the group, then turns his gaze back to the edge of the door. Biwa and the others stay outside the swing of the door leaf.

Camera Control

The camera sits behind Biwa, a little above her shoulder. The back of her head, her red earring and her shoulder fill the left foreground, and the box in her hands sits along the bottom edge; the lens looks past her at Ruk, standing in the gap of a half-open door. The camera stays put for four seconds, and Biwa's body and the door frame give the shot its depth.

An over-the-shoulder shot has two things to get right. The foreground character shows only head and shoulder, or part of them, and never covers the face of the subject beyond. The two characters' eyelines should meet, and the camera should stay on the same side across shots, so that when you cut to the reverse the audience still knows who is on the left and who is on the right. In the prompt, name the foreground character, what part of them is visible, who the camera looks at, and where that person stands relative to landmarks like the door.

Biwa stands at the door holding the sealed box. Ruk waits in the gap of the half-open metal door, rests a hand on its edge, looks at Biwa, glances to one side, then looks back.

What to Watch For

The camera doesn't move. Biwa's hair, red earring and shoulder stay in the left foreground, and the gold patterns on the box glint along the bottom of the frame. Notice how Ruk fits into the space between Biwa's head and the door: when he reaches for the door, turns his head and looks back, every move is seen past her shoulder, which keeps the audience on her side of the exchange.
