A clean whip needs a steady start and a steady landing: hold the opening frame long enough for viewers to read it, and lock onto the new subject the instant the move ends. The blur should run in the direction of the turn, and the landing subject should sit near the center so the eye can catch it. Here the whip also plays as the character lifting her head, so it moves much faster than an ordinary pan.

What to Watch For
Find the frame where the blur begins: one moment the card is sharp, the next the whole image is pulled diagonally and the door frame and tiles turn into streaks. The blur lasts only about 0.3 seconds; afterwards the picture is sharp at once, the corridor receding toward the center with Biwa just left of middle. Compare the camera height before and after, and you can see it jump straight from looking down to eye level.
