Work with the daylight or fixtures already present on location, while still choosing the position, direction and time of the shot.

Use Available Light: use only the existing sky daylight, sun outside frame and natural courtyard reflections, with no additional photographic light. Change the daylight condition to a clearly directional afternoon sun entering from upper camera-left, producing a consistent single cast shadow toward lower camera-right, plus cooler natural sky fill in shadows. Effect comparison
In the baseline image, Ruk stands in a courtyard under relatively even daylight. The available-light version uses the existing daylight to illuminate from the upper left and cast a single shadow toward the lower right, with soft sky illumination supporting the darker surfaces. The courtyard's existing light conveys the figure's volume and a sense of time, while the visible fixtures remain switched off.
